On El Al, Israel’s premier national airline, I am always impressed. The cabin service is first class even back in economy. The security is matchless. And the food is unbelievably tasty and plentiful.
Passengers fly from all walks of life. Rabbi’s pray and are allowed to gather in the galleys. Big families with energetic children make a joyful noise aboard the Dreamliner. Business men and women, dead heading pilots, and students all converse in Hebrew.
Sure 99% of them speak English flawlessly but they chatter away in a language and culture that binds them. It makes me all too aware of my Gentile-ness.
When our wheels touched down last night, the purser made an announcement. Her words landed on listening ears and resulted immediately in much clapping and cheering.
Our translation came only a moment later as we continued our taxi down the dark runway towards the terminal.
“Ladies and gentlemen we want to thank our beloved IDF soldiers and families for keeping us and our nation safe. And we pray for the safe return of all hostages.”
Never for a moment can they forget. The national pain is too great.
As one who is grafted in, my emotions and nationality allow me to remember less often.
What a burden the people carry.
A lovely, lovely story, my girl❤️❤️❤️ I listen thru the week to Andrew Wilkow, and on the weekends to Tom Rose and Morgan Ortagus on Sirius ‘Patriot channel and they keep Israel always front and center for their listeners. But you are there listening to Hebrew👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
